Five Tips to Avoid Paper JamsMarch 4, 2016 No Comments
You get paper jam while in the middle of an important print job? Well, it happens to everybody. Jams do occur in most copiers, printers, and MFPs. With that being said, here are few things you can do to eliminate the risk of paper jams or get rid of them entirely.
Tip #1 – Always Use the Right Type of Paper
There are many types of printer paper available in the market, but not all of them are created for the same purpose. Knowing the correct media size is appropriate for which kind of printer can make it easier to select the right paper. Be sure to read the manual that came with the printer.
Tip #2 – Adjust the Paper Tray
Adjusting the tray is a great way to avoid paper jam and make your printer work its best. When you load a different paper size in the tray, change the paper size setting in the machine at the same time. Always make sure that the paper is not curled, wrinkled or overfilled.
Tip #3 – Clean the Roller and Separation Pad
Printer rollers come in different shapes and sizes but they only have one purpose – to grab and pickup sheets. A little roller cleaning may get you printing again. Paper misfeeds and paper jams are often caused by dirty or dusty rollers. Damp a piece of cloth with water or rubbing alcohol and clean the dust off the roller. Let it dry and that may fix your problems for a while. If it doesn’t, try the rubber cleaner & rejuvenator or replace the roller.
Tip #4 – Inspect/Replace any Worn Parts or Supplies
Check the hardware of the printer for loose or worn parts. Also check the printer display for messages prompting to replace supplies, or print a supplies status page to verify the remaining life of the supplies.
Tip #5 – Keep your Printer Clean
Dust, ink or toner buildup inside the printer can often to jams, and even decrease the print quality. So always clean/wipe out the dust with soft brush to reduce the printer issues.
We hope you find this helpful towards reducing workplace frustrations and making the day a lot more productive.
