My HL-2280DW uses the same cartridge, but none of your steps work — in fact it has no GO button or LED’s.
I’m sure there is something similar to get you to the hidden Reset menu, i.e. turn it on with certain buttons held down. But I need something that works for my HL-2280DW.

    Thank you!
I saw a documentary which discovered that printer manufacturers have their printers set to print a certain amount of pages and then they show that the ink/toner is empty and needs to be replaced, when in fact they are not 100% empty.

Is there a procedure to reset the toner low switch mechanism?

  9. Erika says:

Hi there, Robbie, I would look for other procedures to help you. For the mean time, you can try the usual toner hack that users do. Take out your toner cartridge shake it up a little to distribute the toner and install it back to your printer. Then check out if the printer’s toner level again. Worked out for me a lot of times. :)

    I have the HL-2270DW, firmware ver 1.10.

At step 6 the Error LED continued to blink. I closed the front cover after about 30 seconds and the Ready LED came on and Error LED turned off. Printer is now working fine. Thanks for your help.

Did anyone find a hack for an MFC 7860dw? Mine doesn’t recognize a new, non-Brother toner cartridge–and, as others have noted, this machine’s control panel doesn’t include a GO key or LEDs. All help greatly appreciated!

I bought my MFC 7360N Nov 2012, have probably only printed about 200 pages and toner low message came on. Even if I printed 300 pages(real estate listings, recipes, 1 tutorial with pictures-b/w, school information, receipts)that seems a ridiculously low amount to see the toner is low. I am still able to print for now but my all-in-one will not let me scan anything to my pc. I tried solution you show but nothing worked. If I had a job and could replace it, this thing would definitely go out the window! Thanks for any help!

  23. Erika says:

Hi there Christine, you can try redistributing the toner on your Brother cartridge. Just simply take out the toner cartridge, shake it a little for the toner powder to distribute inside the cartridge then put it back to your printer. If this still doesn’t work, try buying a new toner instead. The toner inside your cartridge may had already been dried up.

Thanks so much for the note. I have taken out the cartridge a couple of times and did shake it back and for plus cleaned the wire guide(?). Any experience with Brother compatible toner cartridges from SuppliesOutlet.com? I’m all for generics if they work. I see the Brother toner on Amazon for $45 but the compatible is less than $18.
    Thanks again!

Compatible toners are a wise alternative especially if you want to save money but remember to buy them from reliable sites you can find in the net. Not all compatible toners works well. About the price, at http://www.tonerboss.com, we also offer Brother TN450 Toner that offers high capacity for more printouts for only $29.00. You can check it out here: http://www.tonerboss.com/Brother_TN450_Black_Laser_Toner_Cartridge_p/btn450.htm.

It appears the method for the 7860DW
may work for the MFC-7360N – I did have to remove the cartridge, as well as opening the front cover. OK, just printed: this method works! This is great, because the printer has done this with two printer cartridges, neither of which was empty. I hate to waste the perfectly good toner remaining in the drums. Hooray!
